There’s a new social media app — Instants. Well sort of, it’s a standalone app from Instagram, similar to Threads but totally different. Instants is an app that’s way more similar to Snapchat, it allows you to share instant un-edited temporary photos. IDK I think Meta is just trying to get some of the Snapchat users to keep using their apps.
Back in the day, before IG had Stories, Facebook tried to acquire Snapchat but Snapchat declined and ever since then, FB/Meta has sort of been copying a lot of their features in order to stall their growth. Classique business stuff… so here’s Instants, from Instagram. I don’t see it available in my App Store, but it’s on the Google App Store already, if you’ want to check it out. I tried to download it myself just to say you know HIP but I couldn’t find it so feel free to read more about it here.

You may have already seen my version of this Reels edit here, but I had to share it in the newsletter!
‍It’s a really easy way to re-use old clips from your camera roll or past artwork, and give it a new life. I obviously draw a lot from inspiration in Philadelphia, so it was a no-brainer since I could show the location footage along with the illustration. I recommend for the first clip to have yourself in it, either looking at the camera or engaging with the camera in some way. If you can’t fathom that, the second best option would be you drawing/painting/being creative in some way, but really show your surroundings to give immediate context that you’re an artist. Without your face/person in the frame, I think it makes people less curious to see the reveals — so give it a shot! Here’s an example you can use as a template to make editing quicker. I just realized I didn’t share mine as a template :( but I still wanted to give you a quick way to get started.
TBH if you don’t edit this reel together… then I really don’t know how much easier I could make it for you. I know you may not want to hear it, but really it doesn’t get easier than this!
Use this audio to make a little cheeky Reel making fun of a day at the studio that feels like you did nothing. I mean how many times does it feel like you got nothing done, but hey — that's part of the process! Here's the perfect example to use as inspo and as a template!
Simple little Reel format where you just have to record yourself waving at the camera or “introducing” yourself for the first clip, then have images of your final art flash on beat to the music. Ella from @home.of.abundance made a great one that you should check out!

Yes, you can now tell your Instagram algorithm what you want to see “more of” and “less of” and it will be reflected in your Explore and Reels feed.
